Photographers
Step-by-step guide
Please read the following step by step guide carefully before continuing to use this website. Click here for a printer friendly version of this step by step guide.
Step One
1. Prepare your images as a high quality jpeg. There is no need to produce two versions of the image file even though a buyer can choose to purchase a lower resolution version. The lower resolution version is generated automatically from the high resolution version you upload. Buyers are always looking for high quality images so avoid using exessive jpeg compression. Next, you will need to prepare your images to be searchable on this web site so think of some keywords that best describe your images and decide what category best describes your images.
2. Catalogue your images using any photo editor capable of adding IPTC metadata to your images, for example, PhotoShop or FotoStation. If you are using PhotoShop you can apply metadata by clicking on 'File' and then 'File Info'. Don't worry if you don't have access to an IPTC editor. There is an on-line IPTC editor you can use to catalogue your images but only once you have uploaded them as described in step 3.
3. Type descriptive keywords in the keywords field. Make sure there are no spelling mistakes and that the keywords accurately describe your image. Next, write a description about your image in the caption field. Information in the caption field is also searchable so make sure data is accurate and without spelling mistakes. Finally, type catagory data in the supplemental catagory field. If you are using your own IPTC editor make sure that the catagory matches exactly one of the catagories found in the category drop down list on this web site.
Step Two
1. There is no need to apply any extra infomation. When you upload your images information in every other field will be deleted. At the same time your images will be automatically tagged with additional metadata using data you have supplied during the registration process. For example, your name will be added to the photographer field and copyright information will be added to the copyright field.
2. Your images can now be uploaded. Click on the 'upload my images' link in the photographer administration section. .
3. Now browse and select your images one by one. You can upload three images at a time. Click on the 'browse' button to select an image file and repeat the process to select an additional 2 images in the fields below. You don't have to upload 3 images at a time. The 2 fields below show the photographer and copyright information that will be used to catalogue your images. This information was provided by you during the registration process. If this information is not correct click on the 'Details not correct' link to amend your registration details. If everything looks fine then click on 'Upload Image' to complete the process.
4. There are limits imposed to the number of images you can upload. If the administrator has notified you that you can upload more than 3 images then repeat the above process to upload more images.
5. Your uploaded images will not appear on the web site immediately. Instead, your images will be held in a 'holding' folder. You can view your images in the holding folder by clicking on the 'Manage Uploaded Images' link.
Step Three
1. View your uploaded images. If your images have not been captioned using software you already own you must do this here with the on-line IPTC editor. To access the on-line IPTC editor click on the 'Edit Text' link beneath each thumbnail. Add your descriptive data here and make sure your data is correct otherwise your image may not appear in the correct search when potential clients are looking for images.
2. When you are happy your data is correct click on the 'Save' button and move onto the next image until your images are done..
3. Some of your IPTC metadata is already entered for you with information you supplied during the registration process.
4. Uploaded images cannot be deleted by you. Images will be vetted and, if approved, will be uploaded into the on-line library. If you have any issues with images you think you may have uploaded in error please contact us for assistance.
